Abstract
Peroxide crosslinking of two types of polyethylene powders mixed with a peroxide crosslinking agent has been studied. Rotary and rotorless (model MZ-401 OB1YU) vulcameters and a rotary viscometer (AR2000ex, TA Instruments) were in use, the vibration frequency of the moving element of the test device was 1,7 Hz at an amplitude of 1°. The kinetic curves of the change in the torque (M) and the tangent of the angle of mechanical losses tgδ at temperatures in the range of 175-215°C were obtained. Parameters М and tgδ are stabilized at maximum and minimum values, respectively, which allows to consider them conditionally as «equilibrium». The maximum value of M can be used to determine the value of the dynamic shear modulus of the crosslinked polymer G. Considering the minimum values of tgδ, G practically coincides with the real part of the dynamic shear modulus. The possibility of evaluating the kinetics of crosslinking of polyethylene by all parameters usually determined at the vulcanization of rubbers is shown.References
