Effect of Plasticization of Isoprene Rubber on the Hardness of its Vulcanizates. Part 1. Temperature and time conditions of plasticization

Abstract
The influence of temperature and time conditions of plasticization of isoprene rubber (SKI-3) on the hardness (H) of its vulcanizates filled with Carbon Black (CB) is investigated. SKI-3 rubber was plasticized in a 5-liter closed rubber mixer manufactured by «HFM», the molecular weight (MW) of the plastics was determined on «Waters» chromatograph. Н of vulcanizates was evaluated according to the standard method in Shore A units. It was found out that the processes of mechanocreaking of SKI-3 macromolecules and their oxidative degradation occurring during plasticization contribute to the growth of H. At the same time, changes in the MW of macromolecules have little effect on Н. It is suggested that oxidative degradation leads to the appearance of chemical bonds between macromolecules of SKI-3 and surface of CB particles.
