Polyester Tire Cord Waste Chemical Recycling. Part 1. Review

Abstract

The review is the first part of the study devoted to the production of unsaturated polyester resins via chemical recycling of tire cord. Polyester tire cord includes polyester fiber (polyethylene terephthalate) and crumb rubber. Methods of regeneration of crumb rubber – thermal, thermomechanical, chemical are considered separately; methods for studying the course of devulcanization are described. Methods for chemical recycling of polyethylene terephthalate – directed destruction, interchain exchange and polycondensation under the action of water, hydroxyl, ester and acid groups are also considered. It is shown that unsaturated polyester resins are the most promising polyester tire cord recycling product.
